The Sultan of Brunei’s Car Collection
I just read a little article about the Sultan of Brunei’s car collection and it really is mind blowing. He owns 5000 cars, including 367 Ferraris, 160 Porsches and 20 Lamborghinis. I’d love to know what proportion of exotic car sales are actually attributed to him. The guy owns 8 McLaren F1s. Just one of those would set you back nearly $1,000,000.
Then there’s the logistics of the whole thing - where do you store 5000 cars? Well, apparantly 2000 of them are in use by his aids and government officials. That leaves the other 3000 - roughly worth $4,000,000,000 (4 billion). These are stored in aircraft hanger like garages, with miles and miles of parking spaces. His brother apparantly “helped” him purchase most of them, but stopped doing so after he got caught up in various scandals (the guy called his 50ft yacht Tits).
Apparantly he’s more interested in the exotic “one-off” cars and also enjoys creating exotic custom pieces (like ferrari coupes and stretched range rovers). A really good article on his collection was scanned and uploaded here.
To read a full list of all the cars he own check it out on German Car Zone. It really will blow your mind. But then again what do you expect from someone who apparantly earns in the region of $2,000,000,000 a year?
